How to be a Good Ancestor

How to be a Good Ancestor is a short speech on how we can improve the condition of our world for the future generation of humankind. So, I had created a motion design that enforced the speaker's words. For the style, I wanted to combine vectors and images.

  • 2D Animation, Illustration, and Photoshop

  • Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator

Process

Inspiration/Style

Using vectors and images in my design, I created a mood board to flush out my ideas and determine the vectors' style, which I decided to have the vectors be outlines and simple shapes of objects.

Storyboard/Sketches

I made thumbnail sketches right after determining the style I wanted to use in my design. This included a line from the speech and images that represented that line.

Visual Style

After the rough sketches, I started the visual style of the design. This would help me make my detailed storyboard. Now I did play around with a few ideas of how it could look, but it stayed with the simple illustrations and images idea. When it came to the color pallet, I knew I wanted to have 3 or 4 color pallets for the color pallet. I look at the images from my mood board and base my color scheme on that. The green stands for looking into the future and making the world better, and the blue is the short-term thinking and the negative things we are doing to the world.

Detail Storyboard

Before starting the motion part of the design, I made a more detailed storyboard with all the graphics, text, and colors in place. This step includes a rough idea of what the motion will look like and how the objects will move.
